The Indigenous Watersheds Initiative (IWI) was established with a $15 million investment from the NDP Goverment in British Columbia. This funding is delivered and stewarded through a partnership between The American Tides Foundation, aka the MakeWay Foundation. and and Watersheds BC.

The three-year initiative (2022–2025) funded dozens of Indigenous-led and co-led projects across British Columbia—including several in the nearby Skeena watershed—that focused on ecosystem restoration, food sovereignty, and traditional watershed monitoring. Watersheds BC is primarily funded by the Province of British Columbia and philanthropic organizations, and operates as a project on the MakeWay shared platform
