The New Relationship Trust (NRT) is primarily funded by the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada. Established in 2006, its core capital was created by a $100 million endowment from the BC government, with program services and grants supported by the interest earned.
- Province of British Columbia: Originally provided the $100 million foundational trust and provides resources for programs like the multi-million dollar Declaration Act Engagement Fund (DAEF) to assist First Nations in aligning provincial laws with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
- Government of Canada: Partners with the trust through federal organizations like PacifiCAN and the Strategic Partnerships Initiative to fund specific mandates like the BC Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative.
- Philanthropic & Private Partners: The organization also accepts private donations and partnerships.
