LNG won’t solve our energy challenges. It will exacerbate them. While being acclaimed as a low-carbon fuel, LNG actually emits significant amounts of methane—a harmful greenhouse gas that is 80 times more powerful at trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide.

How much methane does natural gas emit?
Total estimated leaked emissions range from just less than one percent to as much as 9.6% of total volume, with an average of 3% across the surveyed regions. The federal government estimates that methane emissions from oil and gas facilities nationwide average roughly 1% of gas production. Mar 13, 2024  By comparison, humans produce a 1 L of flatus (farts) per day, only 7% of which is methane. Now in perspective, this year Canada’s population rose to 41,012,563, so that’s 41,012,563 litres of farts per day, that comes to 2,870,879.41 litres of methane emissions per day. Sept 9th, 2024
